Inventory with barcode scanner QR code generation Google API issue

We have recently noticed that in the Inventory with bar code scanner template the QR generation process is not working properly

This system is setup in the Items - Inventory sheet in the template where in the Print labels tab you can get QR codes generated for each Item in your master list of inventory

The QR code generation is a fairly simple formula where it takes the unique SKU of the item and uses a chart API call to generate the codes

Within the template we would call the Google chart API - so the formula for it would be slightly different

=ARRAYFORMULA(IF(Items!C2:C="","",IMAGE("https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=qr&chs=500x500&chl="&Items!C2:C)))"

You can see the chart.googleapis link in the formula above

However recently this API call seems to not be working and has possibly been deprecated

A workaround for this is a chart API provided by GO QR for free - you can use their API to generate the code

The formula would then change with the GO QR API URL

=ARRAYFORMULA(IF(Items!C2:C="","",IMAGE("https://api.qrserver.com/v1/create-qr-code/?size=150x150&data="&Items!C2:C)))"

We are still looking to see if there is a new Google chart API which we can use - stay tuned!

Seems like there is an extra quote at the end of the formula!
Now it’s correct ;)

Karoline from Sheetgo Thank you for this corrected formula. Could you please explain to me how/where to paste this formula in my existing spreadsheet to replace the old formula (in cells that already contain data) and to make sure it is applied to items that I add in the future?

I have already printed physical labels using the original QR codes generated by my inventory spreadsheet. Will this workaround create entirely new QR codes for the same data (meaning I will need to reprint and relabel all my items), or will the QR codes turn out the same as before?

MeganStone The original labels will still work, so the ones that you have already labelled are fine - you might have to apply the new QR code to the ones that you are yet to label

Basically using the 2 separate formulas, we have 2 different QR codes but they refer to the same Item SKU - so if you label any item with either of the 2 QR codes, then you should be fine

Sure, you will need to replace the formula in cell A2 on the “Print Labels” tab, inside the “Items - Inventory” sheet.

The array at the beginning of the formula ensures that it picks the whole range on the items sheets starting from C2 and not only one specific cell.
